What this worksheet helps you decide
Compare a document expiry date with a required-through date and an extra buffer you enter. It provides a transparent working copy of one defined question, not a complete journey plan. The relevant inputs and the scope of the calculation stay visible beside the result.
The most useful result is not always the most favorable number. It may be a shortfall that tells you to revisit an allowance, a comparison that exposes a hidden fee, or a reminder that your source information needs checking.
How to use it
- Define one scenario. Use information you have checked for your own trip. Replace every example field that differs from your plan.
- Check units and reference dates. Keep amounts in the units shown. Clock values share one reference clock; a currency label does not convert money.
- Calculate and read the components. Compare the result with the method below. If a source value is uncertain, calculate a second scenario rather than treating one answer as certain.
- Keep a copy deliberately. Download or print only after reviewing the result. Changing an input marks the old result stale; calculate again before exporting.
Method and calculation rules
The date gap is expiry date minus your required-through date, counted as calendar-day boundaries in UTC to avoid daylight-saving offsets. Subtract your additional buffer to obtain the remaining margin. A non-negative margin meets only the dates and buffer you entered.
The method describes what is counted and what is not. A displayed quantity can be rounded for readability; rounding does not make an input more accurate. Do not substitute a result for facts this worksheet does not retrieve.
A worked example
An expiry of 1 March 2027 is 151 calendar days after 1 October 2026. Subtracting a 30-day entered buffer leaves a 121-day margin.
Important limits
This does not determine passport rules, visa eligibility, months-of-validity requirements, blank-page rules or whether a document is accepted. Verify official requirements for your nationality, transit and destination.
Use this worksheet while stationary. It cannot monitor your journey, notify another traveler or provide emergency help. If a result appears wrong, stop relying on it and send a non-sensitive reproducible example through the Contact page.
Questions about this tool
Can I treat 180 days as six months?
Not automatically. Calendar months and fixed day counts differ. Enter dates based on the actual rule you verified, not a guessed conversion.
Do I need to enter a document number?
No. Do not enter passport, identity or reservation numbers. The calculation needs only dates and your chosen day buffer.
