Rest-Day Balance Sheet

Count overlapping drive/activity days before reserving unassigned days in an itinerary.

Your scenario

Starting values are examples, not recommendations. Replace them, read the method, then calculate.

What this worksheet helps you decide

Count overlapping drive/activity days before reserving unassigned days in an itinerary. It provides a transparent working copy of one defined question, not a complete journey plan. The relevant inputs and the scope of the calculation stay visible beside the result.

The most useful result is not always the most favorable number. It may be a shortfall that tells you to revisit an allowance, a comparison that exposes a hidden fee, or a reminder that your source information needs checking.

How to use it

  1. Define one scenario. Use information you have checked for your own trip. Replace every example field that differs from your plan.
  2. Check units and reference dates. Keep amounts in the units shown. Clock values share one reference clock; a currency label does not convert money.
  3. Calculate and read the components. Compare the result with the method below. If a source value is uncertain, calculate a second scenario rather than treating one answer as certain.
  4. Keep a copy deliberately. Download or print only after reviewing the result. Changing an input marks the old result stale; calculate again before exporting.

Method and calculation rules

Busy-day count is driving days + excursion days − days counted in both. Unassigned days equal total trip days minus that union. Compare unassigned days with your own desired allowance. Overlap must not exceed either group, and the resulting busy-day count cannot exceed the trip.

The method describes what is counted and what is not. A displayed quantity can be rounded for readability; rounding does not make an input more accurate. Do not substitute a result for facts this worksheet does not retrieve.

A worked example

Five driving days and four excursion days with two shared days occupy seven days. On a ten-day trip, three remain unassigned; that is one more than a chosen two-day allowance.

Important limits

This is calendar counting, not a fatigue or wellbeing assessment. A day without a driving stage may still be demanding, and a positive allowance is not a safety recommendation.

Use this worksheet while stationary. It cannot monitor your journey, notify another traveler or provide emergency help. If a result appears wrong, stop relying on it and send a non-sensitive reproducible example through the Contact page.

Questions about this tool

What does overlap mean?

It is the number of calendar days that contain both a driving stage and an excursion. Subtract it once to avoid counting those days twice.

Does it assign activities to actual dates?

No. It counts categories. Use a separate calendar to check which specific days are free.
